The use of barbless hooks is now mandatory in the Northwest Territories.  The barbless hook facilitates the release of the fish with minimal damage.

The less your catch is handled, the more its chances of survival are increased after the release.

To achieve that Hearne Lake Lodge provides (1 in each boat) a  "cradle" instead of a net for easier handling of your trophy fish.

Hearne Lake Lodge strongly believes in the practice of Catch and Release to ensure a healthy fishery for generations to come.

We do however sacrifice a few for shore lunch or evening meals (if you want). Always use the smaller of the species.

This is a good time to get Don to give you a lesson on how to debone a pike if you want to learn how.

Cradle Provided in each boat
